Keep Lancaster Warm

"Blanket and Coat Drive"

We have partnered with the Lancaster Breakfast Club and will be collecting gently used coats (any size!) and new blankets through Feb 9th.  Please take a few minutes to review your closet for coats and/or stop by a store to buy a blanket.  Thankfully our winter has been pretty mild, but even 40 degrees is cold if you don't have a coat or blanket!!  Annette Deese will be distributing the items to Christian Services, Jackie's Place, Family Promise, and the Lancaster Outreach Project.  Thank you Annette!!

Literacy Project - Indian Land High School

November 22, 2011

Dear Member of the Lancaster Rotary Club,

I would like to thank you for your support and contribution to literacy.  Your funding of my PVC pipes is greatly appreciated.  Already we have used the pipes to practice memorization of the Romeo and Juliet prologue.  The use of the pipes keeps the classroom noise level down and allows other instruction to take place.

We will also be using the pipes to edit papers.  Audible reading are great to catch awkward phrasing and word omissions.

The Rotary Club’s funding was such a nice surprise.  Thank you all very much!

[September 2011]

Sept 1:   The Football Pool Kick-off!!  We will begin our annual Football Pool fundraiser on Thursday September 1.  There are lots of fun activities planned for our meeting that day, to include a corn-hole tournament, the national anthem with a fly-over, and a special celebrity half-time performance!  Rotary members have chosen their team picks for college football games during the month of September.  After a lot of rule-following and number crunching, the winners of the Football Pool will choose one or more charities to receive 100% of the funds raised.  This is truly a WIN-WIN program!

Sept 8:  The annual Rotary Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday September 8th beginning at 12:30pm.  Our club joins forces with the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary club to raise money, play golf, and enjoy fellowship.  After 18 holes are complete, both clubs will enjoy a delicious pig-picking meal.  We are looking forward to the tournament!

Sept 15:  Field Trip!  On September 15th we will change our meeting location and go on the road!  Our regular meeting will be held at the Lancaster Children's Home.  Bruce Sowell has the program and will give us information on how the Lancaster Children's Home fills a huge need in Lancaster County.  The meal for our meeting will be provided by our club member Bobby Bailey.
